THE LIGHTHOUSE |BLACK GIRL PROJECTS OVERVIEW
Grounded in the principles and legacy of Southern Black feminist organizing, The Lighthouse | Black Girl Projects’ mission is to be a central resource for Black girls and women who are looking to make their own lives and those in their communities more full and whole. In the spirit of Ella Baker, we give light through education, narrative shift, research, and advocacy, so people can find their way.
The Walker Fund Microgrant Initiative, named for Maggie L. Walker, the first Black woman in the United States to charter a bank, is part of the organization’s Hamer Project. The Hamer Project, one of the organization’s nine projects, is based on the principles of communal ownership and economic health. The project advances initiatives that support efforts to restructure systems and invest in sustainable means of survival and advancement for Black girls and women.
