The Lighthouse | Black Girl Projects’ "Black Girl Times" presents the Alice Dunbar-Nelson Fellowship. This six-month fellowship develops emerging Black Southern writers through community, mentorship, and real publishing opportunities. Fellows learn to report and write stories that illuminate the lives, experiences, and brilliance of Black girls, women, queer folks, and Southern communities. Fellows receive:
  • Editorial mentorship
  • Writing workshops
  • Publication opportunities with Black Girl Times
  • A $7,500 stipend 
  • Peer support, community, and guidance rooted in TL|BGP’s values 

We welcome aspiring reporters, culture writers, creative nonfiction storytellers, community historians, and anyone committed to ethical, justice-oriented storytelling.
